TAPPAN and Winc are proud to announce the launch of Selected Works, an ongoing collaboration blending the parallel worlds of art and wine, available starting October 13th.
Art and wine are both labors of love, savored by connoisseurs the world over, and each is created by talented artisans with a passion for their craft. Tying the two together and aligning one-of-a-kind wines with emerging artists is something truly unique, and Selected Works is the result of this most perfect pairing.
The vision of Selected Works is to make wine and art more readily accessible to a broader audience with limited edition releases of seasonal wines featuring unique, screen printed bottles. Each bottle features artwork by a different artist, with their own distinct vision and inspiration. The first release will be a Chardonnay from the cool-climate region of Carneros, designed by contemporary artist, Daniel Fletcher. Daniel’s work is rooted in a desire to create an emotion or feeling through the personification of marks and form.
“I wanted to encapsulate an overall tone of high spirits that would reflect the optimism of the summer months...it was important to maintain a level of reserve in the composition to highlight the wine’s elegant palate,” says Fletcher of the design, which incorporates sunny oranges and blues in gestative swathes of color.
The grapes for Selected Works Chardonnay were harvested in early September. As with most white varietals, the grapes were picked very late at night, to maintain a cool temperature through picking and along their journey to the winery. 8.5 tons of Chardonnay grapes were hand-picked, and whole-cluster pressed immediately upon hitting the winery. The juice was fermented in stainless steel, one the wine was put through one third of the secondary (malolactic fermentation) to add a little bit of extra texture to the wine. The finished wine is an unoaked, lean, and vibrant style of Chardonnay.
In collaboration with LA's Tappan Collective comes this exclusive and elegant Pinot Noir. From the esteemed Kick On Ranch Vineyard in Santa Barbara County, comes this elegant Pinot Noir in which art and wine intertwine. An exclusive collaboration with Tappan, this bottle was specially designed for this wine by artist Luke Chiswell. The wine itself is a product of hand-picked Pinot Noir grapes, a portion of which were fermented whole cluster. Post-fermentation, the wine was racked to 500L French oak puncheons for aging. The finished wine is a beautiful representation of what the cool climate Santa Barbara County has to offer for this delicate grape.
Interview with artist, Luke Chiswell:
What inspired the artwork for the Pinot?
I once had a wine glass that could hold a whole bottle of wine.
What message are you trying to communicate?
One glass of a good wine will often turn into a bottle.

About Tappan Collective
TAPPAN is the world leader in emerging art and was launched in 2012 with a unique vision. To connect leading emerging artists to new and seasoned collectors across the world, whilst supporting artists to fully explore and evolve their practice. In essence, to bring art back into common conversation, not only by selling art in a new way, but by creating a new paradigm for art patronage. TAPPAN's primary goal is to change the relationship between collectors, artists and their work. The initial curated online platform has expanded to incorporate e-commerce, unique editorial content, physical exhibitions, brand partnerships and ongoing artist residencies across the world. This approach allows artists to tell their stories in a three- dimensional way that encourages more exploration by the collector than a traditional gallery space. Learn more at tappancollective.com.
